The bow and arrow remained the principal weapon of Protohistoric people. Although still used for hunting, it was also used in times of conflict with other groups. The date that these people got their first flintlock muskets is not known. It is probable that they acquired them well before they met European explorers. They probably acquired guns through trade with Native people already in contact with Europeans.
