Many
traditional quilts (and all traditional quilts made before the invention
of the sewing machine) were made by hand.
The makers of the hand-made quilts in the Museum's collection used the sewing techniques of hand-piecing, foundation piecing, English paper piecing, trapunto, and quilting to construct and decorate their quilts. Close-up photographs of a quilter sewing in each technique illustrate brief descriptions of how quilters made each type of quilt. |
