Lots of my friends, they go work for white families. Cookin' and cleanin', doing all that old stuff. I don't mind. I can do that. We are used to cookin' and cleanin'. I done that since I was so high, just like my momma done it 'fore me. But I don't like to leave my babies. Momma would take care of 'em. She say go on. I can make $13 a week and my room and board. No car fare every day. I'd save more than if I had a factory job probably. It would be good pay, but the only time I'd see my babies would be on my day off. |
