Yankees Southerners
Yankees sometimes confused their neighbors from the South with "poor whites" and considered them lazy, shiftless, and uncultured. Yankees were viewed as inhospitable, greedy, and materialistic. Yankee traders preceded families in the West and gained reputations for driving hard bargains, if not for cheating and conniving.
