Eyes

We believe that the man's costume resembles a peregrine falcon. This idea is based on the argument that the forked design around the man's eye looks very much like the feather pattern surrounding the eye of a peregrine falcon. The Mississippian Indians of a thousand years ago created symbols based on certain animals that had characteristics the Indians admired or wished to copy. The peregrine falcon, although small, is an efficient hunter. It can spot its prey from great heights and dive down to capture it at fantastic speed. The falcon became a symbol for "warrior," and the forked-eye design could be used as a "shorthand" symbol for the falcon, or "warrior."
