At the Museum, the registrar unpacked the dolls with the same care used to pack them. After this phase of the project had been completed successfully, accession numbers and catalog numbers were assigned and added to the database. This task included gathering background information about the dolls' composition, age, maker, origin, and history, that could be linked to each catalog entry. The registrar filled in the missing details as she discovered them by researching in doll magazines and meeting with doll collectors.

Before some of the dolls and accessories were exhibited or stored, they needed repairs. The registrar did some of them herself, looking through the collection's fabrics and extra costumes for matching or suitable outfits.
