First, let us introduce ourselves. The Illinois State Museum is made up of a family of museums located all around the state. There are two large museums, three art galleries, and a Research and Collections Center. Over 100 people work behind-the-scenes in these facilities, striving to present visitors with an exciting, educational experience that they cannot find anywhere else.

The Behind the Scenes Web module presents information about all of the work that goes into the Museum's programs, including:

  • research
  • collections care
  • planning for educational programs
  • exhibit development
It also describes the people and the jobs at the Museum.

Colorful images, a glossary, a reading list, a list of related Web sites, and hands-on activities will give viewers opportunities to learn more about the Museum and try their hand at museum work.
