Conrad Roeder
What little is known about Conrad Roeder comes from the advertisements he placed in the Alton, Illinois, City Directory for 1858:
Conrad Roeder probably came to Illinois from Germany sometime during the 1830s to 1850s, when there was a large German immigration. The Alton City Directory lists him as residing in Alton in 1858. The St. Louis City directories from 1864 to 1877 (the year he died) list him as a St. Louis, Missouri, resident, with a studio at 342 Market Street. Only a few paintings by Roeder are known, including one owned by the Missouri Historical Society depicting a factory in Alton.
