Solidago canaensis (Tall Goldenrod)
Tall Goldenrod grows to seven feet tall in moist to dry open prairies. The flower heads and the branches appear in the upper half of the plant. In the middle section of the stem are the larger, alternate leaves that can grow up to 6 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. They have hairy lower surfaces and prominent veins. Clusters of flower heads appear only on the upper side of branches, as seen clearly in this specimen. Flower heads are tiny (1/4" wide), with 10-15 narrow, yellow ray flowers and a few disk flowers and protruding styles.
