Ratibida pinnata (Gray-headed Coneflower)
Gray-headed Coneflower is named for the tall disk of the flower, which becomes gray after the seeds fall. This plant grows to four feet tall. It is common in dry to mesic prairies. Stems are hairy. Leaves are alternate and may be divided into lobes. Basal leaves are on tall stalks. Flowers are made up of a brown, tall central disk with up to 13 yellow petals that hang downwards. Flowers appear in late spring to fall.
