Liatris aspera (Lacerate Blazing Star)
This specimen of Lacerate Blazing Star shows the unbranched stems topped by purple flower heads with protruding threadlike styles. Blazing Star is common in rocky, dry prairies. It grows to four feet tall and flowers from midsummer to fall.
