Coreopsis palmata (Prairie Coreopsis)
Prairie Coreopsis grows in dry prairies and open savannas, and can thrive in well-drained gravelly soil. The plants are from one to two and a half feet tall with unbranched stems. Leaves are divided vertically into segments (like palm leaves, hence the name). Prairie Coreopsis blooms from late spring to midsummer. Flower heads consist of about eight yellow petal-like ray flowers.
