Aster prealtus (Willow Aster)
Willow Asters grow in moist places such as wet prairies and along streams. They grow up to five feet tall and bloom in late summer to fall. This specimen shows the pyramid-shaped cluster of flower heads that each measure about an inch wide. Each flower head consists of twenty to forty pale lavender ray-flowers surrounding a small yellow disk. Leaves are alternate, long (5") and narrow, and dense along the stem.
