Aster laevis (Smooth Blue Aster)
This specimen of Smooth Blue Aster shows the plants long stem (up to 3 feet tall), tapered alternate leaves, and multiple flower heads on stalks at the top of the stems.
The Smooth Blue Aster grows in mesic to dry prairies and blooms from late summer to fall. Petals and waxy leaves have a blue cast. Up to 25 petal flowers surround a yellow disk.
