Asclepias verticillata (Whorled Milkweed)
This milkweed grows to only about two feet tall in dry prairies and pastures. The stems feature a whorled pattern of narrow leaves about three inches long. Several clusters of about 20 stalked five-petaled greenish flowers may top each stem. Seed pods are about 3" long and 1/2" wide. This specimen shows a branched stem, possibly the result of injury.
