The Mountaineer Paul Riba (1912 - 1977)

Paul Riba was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and the Cleveland Institute of Art (where he later taught). He was considered an American Realist artist. He exhibited in many major galleries and museums. The Mountaineer was exhibited at the 1939 World's Fair in New York and at the Smithsonian.
Gouache is a paint consisting of pigment mixed with an opaque filler (a chalk-like substance) and a smoothing agent such as gum arabic. It is similar to modern tempera paints.
