Burton Freund worked for the Illinois WPA sculpture program.
Plaster sculpture is made by pouring liquid plaster mix into a form or mold, such as a box. After the plaster dries, the mold is removed. The artist carves into the plaster with knives and chisels, smoothes it with rasps and sandpaper. Sometimes the surface is painted or varnished
