First Snow Philip Bard (1912 - 1966)
lithograph on paper, 1939 9 5/8 x 12 3/4 inches
This black and white lithograph shows definite style characteristics reminiscent of Picasso's Cubist period, especially the look and feel of Guernica, painted in 1937. Bard worked with the New York City WPA in the graphics division.
Lithographic prints are made by drawing with a greasy pencil on a stone or metal plate, chemically setting it, them dampening and inking the plate.
