Head of a Bearded Man (Oreste) Agretti (1903 - 1997)
painted plaster, circa 1935 - 1943 14.5 x 12 inches
Oreste Agretti was in the Illinois WPA Fine Arts Program in Chicago.
To make a plaster sculpture, the artist pours liquid plaster mix into a mold, such as a box, and lets it dry. The box is removed and the artist carves into the plaster with knives and other tools. The surface is often painted or varnished.
