Moccasins
circa 1860-1890
24.5cm x 9.4cm
Gift of Adolph Wuerker
These moccasins were made in the Great Lakes area. They are of cut and sewn deerskin and have soft soles. The flap is covered with red and white wool trade cloth onto which yellow, black, and white seed beads are sewn in a curvilinear motif. Green and white seed beads border the flap, and a band of black and white seed beads extends from it to the tip of the toe. There are skin ties attached to each side of each moccasin. There may have been hard soles attached to the soft soles at one time.
