Asian Tiger Mosquito (Aedes albopictus)

These mosquitoes came to the United States in used tires imported from Asia. They were found in Houston, Texas in 1985. Within two years the Asian tiger mosquito had spread into 16 other states including Illinois. It carries diseases such as dengue fever and eastern equine encephalitis. It also spreads the parasite that causes dog heartworm. The Asian tiger mosquito is now well established in the United States and throughout the world.
