Toy convertible with driver, ca. 1955-1960

A snazzy little convertible, this toy car was designed in imitation of models popular during the fifties, with rounded lines and a body of more than one color. It is a simple push toy with the words "DRIVE CAR" printed on the back. At the time the car was made, Japan was recovering from World War II and trade with the United States was active, especially since the American government wished to support the Japanese as an ally against Communist China.
