Gilbert Erector Sets were introduced in 1913 and became the leading construction toy on the market during the 1930s. A variety of structures could be made with each set, and the numerous pieces often included gears and an electric motor. Gilbert advertised this set, No. 7½, with an illustration of the "Walking Beam Engine" that could be made with its pieces. A Ferris wheel could be made with set No. 8½, which included a record of carnival music.
