Why were women so important on the frontier? |
I shall continue without a wife, like the others here. At least until the company sends us girls who have some appearance of virtue. But in my letter I did ask Bobé a favor: (Chassin reads from a letter) "If by chance, there should be some girl with whom you are acquainted who would be willing to make this long journey, for love of me, I should be very much obliged to her and should certainly do my best to give her evidence of my gratitude." Well, I'll see what he says. |
