Agnes was from a very respected Illinois
family. Her mother was Marie Rouensa--the daughter of Rouensa,
the chief of the Kaskaskia--and her father was Michel
Philippe--a captain of the militia, a farmer, and a merchant.
Her mother was Catholic and very active in the parish church.
Both of her parents were prominent members of the
community.
