Beachey, Arthur, Illinois (1863-1925) Crazy quilts were also made by members of Amish groups in Illinois. The small pieces of shiny cotton sateen fabric are hand-sewn together into blocks; then the blocks are sewn together. There are no alternating plain blocks or sashing separating the blocks. This lends a modern look to this quilt—like the look of an abstract painting. The quilter tried out some embroidery stitches in the center of this quilt, but did not embroider all over the quilt top as in non-Amish Victorian crazy quilts. Though it looks very different than a Victorian-style crazy quilt, what aspects of the design are similar?
