Bunn-O-Matic began production of their home coffee brewer in 1974. The company made this model to operate in the same way their restaurant models have since 1964. Water was poured into the top and was heated in the cylindrical reservoir at the back. The hot water was pumped up and through a coffee filter containing the ground coffee located above the glass carafe. The Bunn-O-Matic could deliver 6 cups of coffee in almost 2 1/2 minutes, almost three times faster than other home coffee makers. Between 1975 and 1977, about 1 million Bunn-O-Matics were sold in Illinois.
